INTRODUCTION

Beyond the Film:
Immerse Yourself In The Surveillance Space

Compound arrives with a fully operational alternate reality campaign already building in the market centered around surveillance-themed social channels.

THE PREMISE

The Idea

Compound is the first found-footage action thriller to be filmed on home surveillance cameras, but it was just a matter of time - the surveillance space is all around us. Whether it's our neighbors doorbell camera, traffic cams erected in our cities or CCTV covering pretty much every small business - we’re all being watched.

The film's premise - that the cameras everyone places around them to feel safer are actually fanning the flames of paranoia - is not just a horror conceit. It is a documented, ongoing reality.

The ARG campaign showcases that reality and will build a true-crime, digital-obsessed audience ready to embrace Compound’s trailblazing filmmaking approach.

THE CHANNELS

@surveillancestate
ofamerica

Hosted by a Vlogger character who analyzes real surveillance footage, unpacks the gap between official accounts and what cameras actually captured, and asks the question that drives the entire Compound premise:

If cameras are meant to keep us safer - why is everyone so much more paranoid?

The channel launched across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts with a content strategy built around three distinct angles, each designed to reach a different segment of the true crime and surveillance-aware audience.

The channel operates as a fully credible standalone property. It builds its own audience. It generates its own engagement. And at the moment of the film's release, it becomes the thread that pulls everything together.

The vlogger has not only discovered the “leaked footage” behind Compound, he’s made the film because the “true story” of the Wiliams family has to be told to the world.

THE HOST

William Magnuson

Austin based actor William Magnuson became obsessed with surveillance footage, true crime, and a feeling that we’re all being watched way too much while making found-footage features like Man Finds Tape. He decided to turn this obsession into a social following with the launch of the SurveilanceStateofAmerica channels.

THE ARCHITECTURE

How It Works

The channel operates on three levels simultaneously.

LEVEL 1:  STANDALONE CONTENT
Each post works as self-contained true crime / surveillance commentary. No knowledge of Compound required. The audience builds organically through TikTok discovery, Reddit true crime communities, and cross-platform sharing.

LEVEL 2:  EMBEDDED WORLD
For viewers who look closer, the channel's visual language - IBM Plex Mono typography, CCTV timestamp aesthetic, the recurring signoff "in the surveillance state of America" - mirrors the visual world of the film exactly. The channel looks like it could have been made by someone who found the footage from Compound.

LEVEL 3:  THE REVEAL

At the moment of release, the vlogger character discovers footage. Not from a cold case. Not from a news story. From a compound. The channel that built an audience analyzing real surveillance footage becomes the vector through which the film's found footage enters the world. The audience that followed the vlogger for months realizes they've been inside the film's world the entire time.

THE MOMENT

Low Fi Filming + Believable Origin Story = Audience Buy In

Compound is built for people who grew up on YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit - platforms where the most-watched content often looks like it was filmed on a phone, because it was. For this generation, production value is not a signal of quality. It is a signal of distance. The more something looks like a studio product, the less it feels like something that actually happened.

This creates a rare opening for a film like Compound. The same audience that has driven 50 billion views of #TrueCrime content on TikTok is actively seeking material that feels raw, unmediated, and real. They do not want to be told a story. They want to discover one.

The @surveillancestateofamerica channel speaks that language natively. By the time Compound is revealed, its audience won't feel like they're being marketed to. They'll feel like they found something.

THE NUMBERS

The Opportunity

The true crime audience on TikTok is not a niche. #TrueCrime has over 50 billion views on the platform. The surveillance-adjacent content this channel produces - home security vulnerabilities, hidden cameras, footage analysis - performs across true crime, tech, and general interest categories simultaneously.

The channel's target: 50,000 followers before September 1. A community of viewers who feel personally implicated in the film's premise before they buy a ticket.

The film’s tagline isn't just a marketing line. It's the channel's thesis statement.

Zero Trust. Eyes On.
